This week on ATG we’ll pay our respects to the late-great drummer and spirit guide, Billy Higgins, visit with the purple prince of bumpology, listen to Tortoise re-purposing Spandau Ballet, and re-new our music vows in the fusion sanctuary called Blueberry Cave.
Welcome
This edition of ATG is the ninth installment of our periodic program, Odds and Sods. The 2-hour show includes 17 recordings and 28 drummers spanning 6 decades of music history. Of particular importance are tracks from Ray Barretto’s masterwork, Hot Hands; a head nod to avante outsiders including The Ruins and Maroon, a nu-bop classic from trumpeter Brian Lynch, the first appearance of Billy Kilson and Alan Hertz on ATG, and wicked bad tambourine by Robert Rucker for a live love-fest at the House of Tribes.
The show will be broadcast twice daily: 9-11 am, and 7-9 pm (MST), beginning the morning of May 4.
